A Step of Faith

“The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8

How encouraging it is to hear these sweet words. I constantly have to remind myself of this command as we are on this journey. To see it paired with an encouraging promise that He will be with us and never leave us brings so much comfort!

This verse became our hope this past weekend and Josh and I are praising God once again for His faithfulness. Sunday night we unexpectedly spent the night in the hospital, but I was reminded of these words, “Do not be afraid.” We went in that evening with some concerns and figured we would just get things checked out, but had no idea we would end up staying the night there. My doctor noticed changes in my cervix and wanted to have it checked further in the morning. Let’s just say Josh and I got little to no sleep. We joked that this was just preparing us for what is to come! 🙂

As I lay there in the hospital bed that night though, my mind definitely began to wander. So often during this time, Josh and I have to remind ourselves that all we can do is take one step at a time. I couldn’t help but think about the story of Peter in the Bible. When he saw Jesus walking on the water, Jesus said, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”  As Peter took that initial step, he stepped out of the boat, stepped onto the water, stepped in faith, and stepped with his eyes fixed on Jesus. That’s the faith I want!! No matter how big the waves are, no matter what’s going on around me, oh how I desire to take that initial bold step of faith! After that first step though, how quickly Peter became afraid. He took his eyes off Jesus, he doubted, he worried, and therefore he began to sink. Seriously Kaitlin, what good was it going to do if I sat there and worried and played the “what if” game? One of these days as I look back on our journey, I never for a moment, want to wish I would have worried less and trusted more! All we can do is take one step at a time and keep our eyes on Him.

The next morning as we met with the doctor, we were thanking God once again for His faithfulness. Overall, everything is looking good with only some minor changes in my cervix. At this point they have decided to start me on a progesterone medication, which we will continue to take in order to help everything stay strong to carry these babies.

These four sweet babies are doing wonderful by the way! They are growing big and healthy. They are weighing between 6oz and 8oz, and moving more all the time. Josh is going to town over here putting together cribs, baby swings, and strollers. We could not be more excited that our house is turning into a baby playland. Our plan is to start out putting all 4 cribs in one room and hope that some sleeping actually happens in there. We have had so many generous people flood us with gifts and we hope you all know how much we truly appreciate each one!!

So as we continue on this journey and continue to pray, we would appreciate prayers for my body to be strong and respond to this medication, for these precious babies to be healthy and grow, and for the doctors to be filled with wisdom. All we can do is trust and step forward in faith. Step forward knowing God can do mighty things and has this all in His hands.

Much love,
